Quick info

Students, learners and job seekers

If you are thinking about doing some kind of study or training, the best place to start is to find out about all your options. There are three main types of education and training offered in Victoria.

On this website you can find information on who provides training, what courses are available (including online courses), and get contacts to help you find the course that's right for you. There's also information for international students.

Vocational Education & Training (VET)

VET is education and training (excluding higher education) that gives people work-related knowledge and skills. You can undertake vocational educational and training as part of an apprenticeship or traineeship, at school, or as part of an employment program.

Adult and Community Education (ACE)

ACE providers offer a wide variety of courses, including formal (accredited) and informal (non-accredited) programs. You can do courses to help you get work, change jobs or return to work, computer and Internet courses, professional development courses and much more.

Work Skills Vouchers is a Commonwealth program which offers vouchers up to $3000 to interested Australians aged 25 and over who want to undertake a qualification at Year 12 or certificate level II.

The vouchers will improve the basic skills of Australians currently in the workforce or looking for work who have no formal qualifications.

Improvements in basic skills will help people who are already in employment to move into higher level positions and assist those who are looking for work to find jobs.

The Adult Community and Further Education (ACFE) Board website (www.acfe.vic.gov.au/) has more information about Victorian courses and course providers.

Higher Education

In Victoria, nine public universities and more than 40 private providers provide higher education at two levels: undergraduate and postgraduate.

The Higher Education website has information on higher education institutions and courses.
