Industry advisory arrangements
Industry bodies work with Government on issues relating to education and training both at a State and national level.
Victorian Industry Training Advisory Bodies (VITAB)
Victoria has a network of Industry Training Advisory Bodies (VITABs) which are a key component of the State's industry advisory arrangements. This network plays a critical role in influencing Victoria's Vocational Education and Training (VET) policy development and funding priorities.
Many VITABs are specifically set up by Statute as 'Industry Training Boards'. In other cases, existing industry bodies are contracted to provide advice about their industry (Industry Advisory Bodies).
The VITABs represent industry through their networking capacity and are required to:
- network with industry, training providers, community organisations and Government;
- provide authoritative advice on industry training requirements including current and emerging skill development needs;
- moderate and validate research activities and outputs;
- promote the training system to encourage industry participation;
- support National and State training policy directions; and
- contribute to the development and improvement of training products.
The Industry Training Boards contact list and the Industry Advisory Bodies contact list contain details on these organisations in Victoria.
The Victorian Skills Commission ( VSC)'s 'Assessing Demand and Establishing Priorities for VET in Victoria' Research Program determines priorities in Victoria for government-funded Vocational Education and Training.
The research informs VET planning at the macro level by analysing the relationship between the factors affecting industry need for training and supply of training, to support future OTTE training purchasing plans.
The VITAB Network makes a significant contribution to this research program through the provision of industry advice and intelligence.
