Apprentices & trainees

Complaints and grievances

Most apprentices and trainees enjoy their training but sometimes problems do occur. If you are experiencing a problem the best thing to do is to seek advice. This list will help point you in the right direction. All the services listed here are free and confidential:

I'm not happy with my training

A good place to start is to call the Apprenticeship Hotline on 1300 722 603.

And if you still need to talk to someone, contact your nearest apprenticeship field officer.

You can also contact your nearest Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) or call 1800 639 629 to find it. Each AAC is staffed with apprenticeship/traineeship experts.

The National Training Complaints Hotline is another avenue to lodge complaints or to seek further information about Australia's national training system - call 1800 000 674.

I am being harassed or discriminated against at work

Remember: harassment or discrimination is wrong, often illegal, and you don't have to put up with it. The best thing you can do is talk to someone about it. These people can help:

I think I'm being underpaid

Visit WageNet for information about wages and conditions of employment in Victoria or call WorkChoices Infoline on 1300 363 264.

I think my workplace might be unsafe

No one should work in unsafe or dangerous conditions. Visit the WorkSafe Victoria website or your trade union website for more information and a contact person.

My employer says my work isn't good enough

If your employer is asking you to sign a written warning and you disagree with what they have said or written, call an apprenticeship field officer to discuss your concerns.
